Common Dental Emergencies

Depending on the type of dental emergency you’re experiencing, here are some of the most frequent issues that we treat in our practice:

Fractured or Knocked-Out Teeth

What should you do if a tooth is chipped or knocked out? First, try to locate the missing tooth fragment and then contact our emergency dentist as soon as possible. Meanwhile, keep your tooth in a sealed container completely submerged in milk, contact solution, or water with a pinch of salt.

It is possible to re-implant and stabilize fully avulsed (knocked out) teeth until you arrive at our office. Do not force the tooth back into the socket if it does not easily slip back into place.

Broken Crowns or Fillings

Worn teeth or recurring tooth decay can cause old restorations to fall off when you least expect it. Depending on the type of restoration and why it fell out, we can sometimes bond a restoration back into place. Visit us within the next few days, but avoid chewing on that tooth to avoid any unwanted fractures.

Dental Abscesses

An abscessed tooth can be excruciatingly painful or not hurt at all. Depending on the severity of the swelling, the gumline abscess usually comes and goes. Fortunately, a gentle root canal treatment can remove the source of the infection while also preserving your tooth (preventing an extraction).
